A better spread of the government work – one of the ambitions from the government program – is taking shape more and more. The country can now find examples that reinforce the regions in question. Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations writes this in a progress letter to the House of Representatives.
Since 2024, the cabinet has established an approach to better spread the government work. It is still too short to be able to determine major changes but the first steps have been taken. Figures from 2024 show that the Randstad has the greatest growth in employment. The regional inequality between the Randstad and the rest of the country requires action from the cabinet. Together with regional partners, the government is committed to improving this spread.
Rich and region
Agreements have been made in the cabinet with which the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations has had a stronger coordinating and advisory role to support ministers in the search for a better distribution of their organizations. Opportunities for this are discussed together with commissioners of the king and mayors. This allows the government and the region to reinforce each other, for example on an economic or social level.
A good example of this is the agreements between BZK, Defense, the province of Drenthe and the municipality of Assen about the future of the Johan Willem Friso Kazerne. Work is being done here on a Rijkscadercentrum, educational institutions and a central production kitchen on the Kazerneterrein.
