Women’s World Cup 2027: Trio around Germany presents their World Cup bid

As of: October 25, 2023 11:00 a.m

Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands have presented their joint application to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027.

Under the motto “BNG2027”, which stands for “Breaking New Ground” as well as “Belgium, Netherlands, Germany”, the associations want to win the award next year, as the German Football Association (DFB) announced.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has already shown himself to be a supporter of the idea. “It would be a big deal for us if this World Cup also took place here,” said the SPD politician.

Games in NRW

The games are to be played in a compact region, which is why only locations in North Rhine-Westphalia are represented for Germany. Dortmund, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen are planned – these are exactly the same venues with which North Rhine-Westphalia will also be taking part in the men’s European Championship in 2024.

The three association presidents Bernd Neuendorf, Pascale van Damme (Belgium) and Just Spee (Netherlands) said in a joint statement: “We are confident that we will offer the participating teams and fans from all over the world a tournament of incomparable quality – unique Experiences and exciting games at the highest international level.”

Decision in May 2024

A decision is expected to be made on May 17, 2024 at the FIFA Congress in Bangkok. The application documents must be submitted to the world association by December 8th of this year.

Brazil, South Africa and the duo USA and Mexico, which together with Canada will host the men’s World Cup in 2026, are considered competitors for the German-Dutch-Belgian bid.
