Together with the Netherlands and Belgium, the German Football Association wants to apply to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The German SoccerThe federal government is applying with the cities of Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup. That was decided by the DFB Executive Committee on Friday.

The DFB wants to compete together with the Netherlands and Belgium as a candidate for the World Cup finals. Aachen, Gelsenkirchen and Mönchengladbach were not included. The three North Rhine-Westphalian cities also wanted to host World Cup games.

City selection a “decisive factor”

“The selection of the candidate cities is a decisive factor in submitting an outstanding application,” DFB President Bernd Neuendorf was quoted as saying in a statement from the association on Friday. “We are pursuing no less. We are convinced that the selected cities and stadiums offer excellent conditions for hosting the tournament and will help to raise the Women’s World Cup to a new level.”

Germany already hosted the World Cup in 2011. It is not yet known with which cities the Netherlands and Belgium are applying.
