Decortes in the chair: the hosts win after 5 defeats in a row. Parisi’s team does not complete the comeback and sees their participation in the Final Eight of the Italian Cup at risk
MACERATA–BERGAMO 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-14)
—
Bergamo’s dream of sealing qualification for the Final Eight of the Italian Cup was shattered by the ball kicked out by Bolzonetti, which marked the defeat of the Lombard team at the end of an endless battle on the Macerata pitch, which interrupted the negative series of 5 consecutive defeats. Parisi’s team played catch-up, but were unable to complete the comeback that would have earned them access to the Final Eight. Bolzonetti and Mlejnkova courageously led Bergamo in search of success, but found on the other side of the net a Decortes top scorer and MVP of the match to block their way together with the central Mazzon, the pillars on which Macerata built this hard-earned and deserved affirmation at the end of a match full of twists and turns. The match begins with an exhausting point-to-point match that drags on for half the set: the guests push hard on the serve, the Marche players allow themselves to be preferred to the block. The break that leaves the mark in favor of Cbf Balducci comes from Bonelli’s turn of service: Decortes’ attacks and Mazzon’s block make it 16-13. Lombardes that crash on the granite orange wall and when the opposite Decortes places the ace and the attack of 22-17 the partial becomes downhill for Lionetti’s girls who close with Clothier’s block, symbol of Macerata’s superiority in front of the net. Bergamo’s reaction was immediate in the second set: Parisi’s team registered attacks and blocks, creating difficulties for a Macerata team that relied on Decortes alone to stay in the game. Guests who have the upper hand thanks to the newfound efficiency of Kendall and Montalvo in attack, limit the errors and, at 20-21, have the strength to repel the Macerata assault thanks to the lethal blows of the former Bolzonetti who brings the match back to a draw. Third set with two faces. Cbf Balducci gets off to a strong start with Kokkonen and Decortes making it 12-9: Bergamo isn’t up for it and replies with Mlejnkova’s poisonous serve for a counterbreak (1-5) which reverses the score and opens the challenge to a thrilling final played ball after ball. Dragged by Mazzon (5 and 100%), Macerata wins it in the sprint with Piomboni and Decortes who land the last very heavy balls of the set. Volley Bergamo which takes advantage of a blackout at the beginning of the quarter in Macerata and extends to 6-11 thanks to Manfredini and Bolzonetti who were then protagonists of the entire partial. Balducci tries to close the gap, but the girls smell the tie break which is worth a lot. Played on the edge of balance and tension, with the guests ahead being caught at 12-12 by Mazzon: Decortes completes the overtaking by closing on the second match ball, exploding the palas.
