Lto heart health starts from prevention, you know. But what is less known is that the awareness of one’s health it must start when you are young, so that the treatment strategies work and improve. This is the principle on which the female cardiovascular research and prevention project is based A Call for WOMEN – CALL ME Project, aimed at assessing the degree of information of women on their cardiovascular risk. The goal is to improve the knowledge of the factors that compromise the state of health and to identify personalized prevention and treatment strategies.

How well do you know your heart health? Take the test

The project is supported by GSD Foundationa non-profit foundation of the San Donato Group and by Go Red for Womencommitted to the protection of women’s heart health, together withAmerican Heart Association.

The initiative, under the leadership of female doctor Serenella Castelvecchio, Head of Cardiovascular Prevention and Gender Medicine at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, starts from aweb survey for now addressed to women of Lombardy at least 18 years old. The survey, which can be easily completed online in a few minutes, is anonymous and consists of simple questions on lifestyle, health status, eating habits, familiarity with certain diseases and the means of information that women use.

Cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death of women

Doctor Serenella Castelvecchio, head of Cardiovascular Prevention and Gender Medicine at the San Donato Polyclinic IRCCS.

Cardiovascular diseases represent the first cause of death in the female universe and the younger generations are increasingly paying the costs, poorly informed of their risk profile, which includes traditionally known factors such as hypertension or smoking and lesser known factors such as depression or eating disorders.

«This project, which embraces women of all ages, has as its first objective to raise awareness in the female universe on heart health. The cardiovascular diseases are responsible, in Italy, for the 35.8% of all deaths and affect women more than men. Thanks to this survey we will have a precise picture of the state of health of the Lombard female population, from which to start to identify ever more personalized treatment strategies. The next step will be to propose screening for the collection of clinical and laboratory data, and at the same time extend it to a national level ”, explains Dr. Castelvecchio.
