Eintracht Frankfurt achieved an important victory in the women’s Bundesliga on Monday. However, a national player had to leave the field.
Eintracht Frankfurt remains on track in the race for the Champions League places. The team prevailed against 1. FC Nürnberg thanks to Nicole Anyomi – but they have to worry about their goal scorer.
The Frankfurt women won their Bundesliga game 4:1 (2:1) and consolidated third place. The lead over pursuers Bayer Leverkusen is still five points. Coach Niko Arnautis’ team took control early against the eleventh-placed team. Anyomi took the lead after Rebecka Blomqvist’s preparatory work (10th), before Meret Günster surprisingly equalized (25th). Shortly before the break, Anyomi restored the old gap with her 13th goal of the season (39th).
After the break, Frankfurt were initially lucky when Leia Varley missed a great chance to equalize (69′). Shortly afterwards, national player Anyomi was injured during an attempted backheel trick and had to leave the field (76th). In the final phase, goalkeeper Lina Altenburg secured the lead with a save against Emoke Papai (80th), before Laura Freigang (89th) and Hayley Raso (90th+4) made the final score.
