Women of mobilized Russians protest at Kremlin | Abroad

For months, dissatisfaction has been growing among relatives of reservists who were mobilized on the orders of President Vladimir Putin in September 2022. On Saturday, about fifty attendees laid red flowers at the symbolic place in the center of Moscow.

“We would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the public to our appeal. We have tried different ways. We have appealed in writing to parliamentarians, civil servants and government services, but we have not been listened to,” one of the activists told AFP. Her husband was mobilized in November 2022. “It’s not fair. They are civilians, not soldiers,” she said.

Although any protest in Russia is usually quickly suppressed, the police did not feel it necessary to intervene. This shows that the matter is sensitive in the Kremlin.

Russian state media pay scant attention to the resistance of women of mobilized Russians. The Kremlin wants to create an image of unity in the country in the run-up to the presidential elections in March. These will in all likelihood be won by Putin.
