Depay, who often has to settle for a substitute role in the competition, started in Lugo. The attacker made it 2-1 and 3-1 for Atlético after half-time, before being substituted fifteen minutes before the end. Earlier, Ángel Correa (Atlético) and Leandro Antonetti (Lugo) had ensured a 1-1 halftime score.

Atlético is in fifth place in the league, 10 points behind leaders Real Madrid and Girona.

Justin Kluivert match winner

In England, Justin Kluivert qualified for the fourth round of the FA Cup with Bournemouth. The Dutch attacker scored the winning goal in the away match against Queens Park Rangers halfway through the second half: 2-3. Kluivert crossed the goal from the right and tapped the ball in from close range.

Queens Park Rangers, which plays football at the second level in England and is in penultimate place there, had a large lead halfway through the match: 2-0. Marcus Tavernier equalized shortly after half-time and Kieffer Moore made it 2-2 within the hour. Kluivert, who came on after half-time, prevented both clubs from having to repeat the match in the near future.

Bart Verbruggen and Jan Paul van Hecke also reached the next round with Brighton & Hove Albion. The away match against Stoke City ended 4-2. Van Hecke put Stoke City ahead with an own goal after fifteen minutes of play.

Newcastle United won the derby against Sunderland: 0-3. Sven Botman had a starting place at Newcastle.
