On New Year’s Day the body of Nicolaas V. was found in an apartment in the Granietstraat in Emelgem, near Izegem. The public prosecutor’s office was called in and an investigation was opened. A farewell letter showed that it was suicide. But soon Sien M., his ex-girlfriend, was arrested. She was suspected of murder, possibly assistance with suicide. Both the suspect and the victim had a history of psychological problems.
Sien M., who was now free under certain conditions, has now had euthanasia carried out because of unbearable psychological suffering. The investigating judge must now decide whether or not to continue the investigation.
