Woman outsmarts four bank card thieves

Four bank card thieves who wanted to scam a woman from Dokkum came home from a cold fair. At the end of the day, they hadn’t gotten a dollar richer and they were also stuck at the police station.

The woman was called on Saturday by someone posing as a bank employee. She was told that an attempt had been made to withdraw money from her account. The bank had supposedly managed to prevent the transactions, but according to the ’employee’ it had to request new bank cards and PIN codes. The woman became suspicious after she entered her PIN numbers over the phone and was told someone would come and collect the bank cards.

The Dokkumse decided to give the fraudsters a heel. She called 112, blocked her bank cards and in the meantime kept the so-called bank employee on the line, the Northeast Fryslân Police Base Team said on Facebook. Alerted officers then discreetly waited for what was to come. “A suspect reported to the woman’s home to collect the bank cards and he was picked up by a car after his visit. On the ring road in Dokkum, the driver of the car was stopped by a conspicuous unit of the police,” said the police.

Four occupants aged 16, 21, 21 and 37 from Leeuwarden were arrested.
