The accident happened around 1.30 pm, at the intersection of the N37 (Ringlaan R. Depaepe) with the Vijfstraat. A truck and a passenger car collided together. The car was grabbed in the flank. The driver of the car, an elderly woman, was seriously injured. The emergency services had to free her from the wreck and tried to resuscitate her, in vain. The victim died on the spot. The truck driver remained unharmed but was very affected.
What exactly went wrong is not known for the time being. There is only alternating traffic possible at the place of the accident.
