Woman dies in head-on car collision, other driver injured

A 43-year-old woman from Oirschot died in a head-on collision between two cars on the Bestseweg between Best and Oirschot on Friday evening. She was driving one of the two cars. The driver of the other car was injured.

“We assume that only the two drivers were in the cars,” the police report.

One of the two cars had ended up on the wrong side of the road. It was not yet clear to the police on Saturday morning how this could happen. It is also unclear what condition the injured person is in. The Bestseweg was closed for some time so that the police could investigate.

Several emergency services were present at the accident, including ambulances, the fire brigade and the police.

Bestseweg was once the most dangerous road in Brabant
Five years ago, the Bestseweg was ‘declared’ the most dangerous road in Brabant. That was the outcome of the Unsafe Traffic Reporting Center that Omroep Brabant had set up. According to a woman who lives near the place where the fatal accident happened, the number of accidents is not too bad. “But,” she adds, “sometimes people drive terribly fast here. Especially in the evening, when it becomes quieter on the road. Then cars pass by that are definitely not going eighty kilometers per hour.”

The woman does not want to suggest that the collision on Friday evening was the result of excessive speed by those involved: “I didn’t see anything, but I heard the emergency services flying past while I was eating.”
