Woman (76) with visual impairment dies after falling into elevator shaft: “Work was going on, but she was not aware of any harm”

A 76-year-old woman with a visual impairment died in Ghent on Friday afternoon after falling into the elevator shaft of an apartment building. “When the elevator was not available on the ground floor and on the first and second floors, she wanted to take it on the third floor. She did not know that a technician was doing work,” the public prosecutor’s office said.
