A wolf has been killed on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The province of Utrecht reported this on Wednesday afternoon. Someone with a shooting permit for ‘problem wolf’ Bram, or GW3237m, informed the province.
An emergency analysis of DNA is currently being used to determine whether it is indeed Bram the wolf. The province will probably announce the results of the test next Friday.
In the meantime, the province of Utrecht has asked the permit holder not to hunt wolves temporarily. The permit holder received permission last summer because wolf Bram was involved in several “serious incidents”. The province also consulted wolf experts prior to the decision.
Pending the DNA results, the advice remains to avoid estates, forests and nature reserves on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug between the A12 and A28.
Wolf Bram slightly injured a girl on the Den Treek estate near Leusden last year; elsewhere on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug a child was also slightly injured; in May this year, a woman was bitten on the thigh in Den Treek; and last August a little boy was apparently jumped, bitten and dragged near the Pyramid of Austerlitz, probably also by Bram.
