In the hype around U21 national striker Nick Woltemade, VfB Stuttgart has rejected possible attempts to pay.
“We’re going to the next season with Nick.”, Said CEO Alexander Wehrle of the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten”.
After his strong premiere season, the 23-year-old Woltemade currently trumps at the Swabian Bundesliga club at the U21 European Championship in Slovakia. There he leads the goal scorer list after the preliminary round with four meetings and meets Italy with the DFB team on Sunday (9:00 p.m./Sat.1) in the quarter-finals.
Wehrle: “Constantly in dialogue”
For VfB, Woltemade changed from Werder Bremen free of charge last summer. After start-up difficulties, he developed strongly, became a top performer and won the DFB Cup with the Swabians. His contract in Stuttgart runs until summer 2028.
A contract extension at VfB is likely to be associated with a salary increase. “There is no reason to act immediately. In addition, we are constantly in dialogue with our players and their consultants. This also applies in Nick’s case,” said Wehrle.
Wehrle does not exclude departures from top performers in the future. “Basically, in the Bundesliga, with the exception of FC Bayern Munich, every club has to show itself to the transfer of a service provider for financial reasons.
Woltemade also convinced Nagelsmann
Woltemade had also convinced national coach Julian Nagelsmann with his achievements and had been appointed to the A national team for the final tournament of the Nations League. It is obvious that he arouses interest of other clubs with the appearances of last season.
Football was “too wild and too fast-moving” to take care of fans before a departure, Woltemade had said before the start of the U21 European Championship. “But what I can say is that I feel very comfortable in Stuttgart, that I have a very nice season that we won the title and that I was now also in the national team due to the good performance at VfB.”
