1/4 Bouwgroep breaks down the winning car again

The realization that Bouwgroep Blood Sweat and Tears won the 66th Brabant Day in Heeze on Sunday, carefully descended a day later. The builders are sitting on Monday afternoon with small eyes, but proud of the joint lunch and cake. Although it is a breakfast for many people, because the victory was celebrated until the small hours. After dinner we work again, because the winning car must be taken apart.

“I would have preferred him for another day here at the construction site, so that people could take a look at it, but unfortunately that is not possible,” says Sem van Ginneken. “Last week I only came home to sleep and shower and for the rest I was building alone,” he says, while behind him the car is increasingly turning into a bare frame.

Sem is still overjoyed with the victory. “Grandiose, a dream come true and we also had a top party afterwards.” The fact that blood sweat and tears would grab both the jury and public prize came totally unexpectedly for the construction group.

Only in the last week did the design of their car ‘from cruel winter to fertile spring’ really come to life, according to Sem. “I see the car still last week. Then we told each other that we could be happy if we were to reach the top ten, because the competition was so strong.”

The theme of the Brabant Day was ‘Carnival unmasked’. Blood sweat and tears went back to the origin of the festival of parties. “I didn’t know that carnival descends from a pagan ritual to make the winter spring. That became our theme,” says Sem.

The 19-year-old Julie Dekkers is surprised that every year there are people who know how to give a twist to the theme of the Brabant Day and then make a design. “Because with carnival you of course think of carnival music and bright colors. So we were the only group that didn’t have that. And that could turn out very well or very badly,” she says laughing. “We noticed that everyone was a bit silent at our car, so that was exciting, but turned out to be positive.”

For Bouwgroep Blood Sweat and Tears it is the second time that they win the Brabant Day. In 2016 it was also hit. “But I wasn’t there at the time because we were on vacation, while I was already sitting with the group. So we had to win again while I was there,” says Julie with a wink.

That there was a lot of partying by young and old is also apparent from the voice of 12-year-old Sep. He is almost impossible to understand. “But I think and hope I will have my voice back tomorrow morning.” Despite the visible fatigue, he simply contributes on Monday.

The victory loosened a lot of emotions on Sunday. Builders fell into the arms crying. “You work for a whole season towards something and there is so much time and effort in it. You go for the highest attainable and if that succeeds, that touches people,” says Karin Wanders.

In total, blood sweat and tears won three prizes, because in addition to the final victory and the audience prize, the ‘Theatral game’ category was also won. The part for which Karin was responsible, but she absolutely does not want to get rid of that honor. “We all do this. Without a nice car, Special Effects And music, the theater game does not come out nicely either.
