With a home win against Dynamo Dresden, Holstein Kiel gets some breathing room in the bottom of the 2nd league table. After three previous draws, the “Storks” landed a 2:1 (1:1) win on Saturday at the end of the year.

The guests actually got off to an optimal start and took an undeserved lead through Vincent Vermeij (12th) after early chances. But Phil Harres (29′) quickly brought Kiel back into the game before Ivan Nekic (51′) turned the game to 2-1 at the start of the second half. With 20 points, Holstein finished tenth and moved into the top half of the table.

After their third defeat in a row, Dresden (13 points) remains at the bottom, four points behind the saving bank.

Strong dynamo start is rewarded

Everything had started so well for the Saxons. After Lemmer failed to put the first promising attack into the goal after a long ball behind the defensive line (11th), Dynamo struck at their next attempt. At the following corner, Vermeij heaved himself into the cross and put it into the goal with the back of his head for a 1-0 lead.

After that, however, the guests from Saxony acted too passively overall. Little by little, Kiel got the upper hand without initially becoming too dangerous. It was only after almost half an hour that the exclamation mark came – but with strong support from the guests. Herrmann overlooked Skrybski in midfield when he received the ball. The Holstein captain moved away, crossed cleverly in the penalty area and Harres pushed in to make it 1-1.

Skrybski more important Holstein driver

Things got a little bumpier until the break. Skrybski (42nd) had a good finish, but otherwise there was a lot of patchiness on the field. Things were initially different at the beginning of the second 45 minutes. Driven by captain Skrybski, Holstein quickly gained a superiority and converted it into the lead.

The advanced Nekic jumped highest at a Niehoff corner and put the header into the goal to make it 2-1. Dresden desperately tried to find its way back into the game. But the Saxons could hardly come up with anything offensively against well-positioned hosts. Kiel controlled the game, but there was hardly anything exciting in front of the goals.

Kiel’s goalkeeper Krumrey was only checked at the end

Only at the very end did substitute Nils Fröling (88th) have a good shot chance for Dynamo from half-right. But KSV goalkeeper Jonas Krumrey was in the short corner. Vinko Sapina (90.+2) also failed in the nine-minute stoppage time with a flutter ball from 22 meters past Krumrey.

In the end, the more effective team scored three points and can go into the Christmas break a little more relaxed.
