Meet Christopher Robin: the plot
The playwright AA Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) a veteran of the First World War moves with his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) in Sussex, They live in the countryside and the wife doesn’t like this new dimension, so she often leaves her husband alone with their son Christopher Robin (Will Tilston), who spends most of his time with the housekeeper.
Left alone with the little one, to try to entertain the child, the father invents a series of characters inspired by Christopher’s soft toys that live in the Wood of the middle acres. Winnie the Pooh, a story never told
Meet Christopher Robin it is the director’s third film Simon Curtis. It’s the third biopic after Marilyn (2011), in which Michelle Williams plays Monroe, and Woman in Gold (2015), which tells the story of Maria Altmann and her struggle to obtain Klimt’s painting stolen by the Nazis from the Austrian state. Through the story of the writer Milne, never told before in cinema, the film also exposes a relationship between father and son, complicated and intense.
The protagonist is excellently played by the Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson. The wife is Margot Robbie. Also noteworthy is the participation in the film by Kelly MacDonaldwho plays the governess with whom the child spends most of his time.
Meet Christopher Robin it is a perfect film for families. A very academic and sometimes a little too rhetorical feature film. But it highlights a story that many do not know and outlines, albeit in a superficial way, a dysfunctional family.
