Winnetou actor Alexander Klaws tested positive for Corona a few days before the premiere of the Segeberg Karl May Games 2022.

“We are all so sorry that Alex is ill. We wish him to be with us again soon,” said managing director Ute Thienel, according to a press release on Monday. However, the organizers hope that he will be able to take part in the premiere of the play “Der Ölprinz” on Saturday evening. “The time window for recovery is sufficient,” said Thienel

The organizers quoted Klaws as saying: “Unfortunately, it got me! Of course, I’m not giving up hope that I’ll be fit again for the premiere and I’ll do everything I can to be back in the saddle as soon as possible.”

If Klaws has not yet recovered, Sascha Hödl will take over the Winnetou role. He had already played the Apache chief for five years in Winzendorf, Austria, and last year in a live radio play in the Indian Village in Bad Segeberg. Hödl is part of the ensemble as oil field owner Jackson and Nijora warrior Ka Maku. The other members are all healthy, said a spokesman.

“Der Ölprinz” was actually supposed to be performed in the summer of 2020. But the season, like that of 2021, was canceled due to the corona pandemic.
