The winner of Kies Je Kraker 2025 has not been found on Spotify for a while, and now it also appears why. The request to remove the number comes from Sweden. With the song Dikke Pens, CV De Klekotte Kachels and René van Rooij won the prestigious prize from Omroep Brabant, but the song has not been listened to via Spotify since Friday and recently no longer via Apple Music.
And that is very annoying for Jop Roeland of the carnival band and their fans, very annoying. Jop’s phone was red -hot: “I have had many angry parents on the line in recent days because their children could no longer listen to the song. Even angry football clubs have approached me because they can no longer play the song in the dressing room. And also several councils of eleven who had mastered the song have made me angry now that the number has been offline.”
But who was taken offline by?
That was the big question … until today. After a lot of calling and emailing to Spotify, the association received an email back with answers. And it turns out: the claim to get Spotify’s song comes from Sweden. And let that be just the country where the world -famous ABBA comes from. The carnival band has based the song on the melody of ‘Take a Chance On Me’, a hit by the Swedish supergroup.
“On the one hand that is cool,” says Jop. “But on the other hand, I don’t know what the hell we should do with this. We have done everything neatly according to the rules,” says Jop. “Maybe we have to go to the table with ABBA, we have to come out together.”
Is it allowed just like that?
Connoisseurs in the field of copyright know that you cannot just make a number on an existing melody from another artist. According to the Copyright Act, a composer may prohibit a cover if the person believes that the good name of the maker is being affected or that the song is unnecessarily mutilated, says an expert in the field of copyright.
It is possible that an artist is informed if a number one million streams has achieved on Spotify. Then they can judge it. A thick tripe had just achieved one million streams a day before the offline was taken.
How to proceed?
“The only thing we want is that our song can be found on Spotify again,” says Jop. “We are not out of money at all, we just want our number on Spotify. How we will get it done and start arranging together is the question. We will at least do everything to be able to put the number online again.”
Clap Your Pens
The song ‘Dikke Pens (Clap Your Pens)’ was chosen by tens of thousands of Brabanders as the carnival hit of 2025. The song is, with a big wink, an indictment against all influencers who only share ‘perfect’ photos on social media. The song was also taken from Apple Music, it can still be heard via YouTube.
Previously
Earlier something similar happened: in 2023 you could choose Kraker won by Gullie and Lanterfantje with the song ‘Ladders Sat’. That number also had to be taken from the maker of the original, Claude, from Spotify, but later came out as the winner at the public prize. That number can now be found on Spotify.
