The Brabant Derby between NAC and Willem II ended in a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon. Elías Már ómarsson put the first goal on the board, but the Tilburgers managed to equalize. Because of this result, Willem II will have to play play-offs to stay in the Eredivisie.

The atmosphere was good at the supporters in Breda. Although little could change in the ranking, there was a lot of yellow smoke at the start of this Brabant derby. In minute 20 the home team was dangerous for the first time. A shot by Leo Sauer was caught by Willem II keeper Thomas Didillon-Hödl.

Shortly thereafter, the first feat of the Tilburgers came, but the shot of Emilio Kehrer was caught by Daniel Bielica. Not much later it was Elías Már ómarsson who let the Rat Verlegh Stadium cheer for the first time. After a Rush van Sauer it was a shot by Janosek that was poorly processed by the French keeper of Willem II. NAC’s striker was there like the chickens and put the 1-0 on the scoreboard in the rebound. ‘The Pearl of the South’ had the upper hand, but from scratch Willem II scored the equalizer. A header ended up on the bar, but fell at the feet of Raffael Beh1nek, who only had to tap the ball.

Willem II started strongly on the second half, resulting in some opportunities. There was also, under loud applause from the audience, the farewell of Dominic Janosek and Leo Sauer. The former leaves transfer -free from Breda, where Sauer will return to Feyenoord, which rented him to NAC this season. The goals were not forthcoming and so this Brabant derby remains undecided.

Willem II to play-offs
Thanks to this result, Willem II ends sixteenth and was sentenced to play play-offs to stay in the Eredivisie. FC Dordrecht will be the first opponent in this. If the Tilburgers close this diptych positively, FC Den Bosch or Telstar awaits in the final of the battle for a place in the Eredivisie. NAC finishes fifteenth and we see in the Eredivisie in the new season anyway.
