King Willem-Alexander’s hairstyle has been insulted in the much-watched RTL Boulevard. The royalty expert on that program, Jeroen Snel, calls the hair of our head of state ‘dry and lifeless’.

King Willem-Alexander and his wife Queen Máxima made a regional visit to Central Limburg yesterday and also RTL Boulevard was there. Does the couple still like this kind of thing? “I think so,” says royalty reporter Jeroen Snel. “If you end up in such a warm bath, it is of course great fun.”

Core business

This is also what the king should do, according to Jeroen. “This is their core business, right: connecting. The king said it in Roermond that he tries to connect people with each other.

In images we also see the king visiting a hair salon. “Since you have that beard, the king has even more appearance,” says the hairdresser.

Willem then: “So the top half now also has to improve?”

The hairdresser: “Well, not better. No, no, not at all.”

Willem laughing: “Different!”

Hair wax

Then the hairdresser comes with a jar of hair wax. Willem: “This is your own product? I might secretly try it sometime. It would be the first time in almost sixty years that I have put something in my hair, so…”

The hairdresser: “It’s never too late, is it?”

Willem: “No, I learned that too.”

Presenter Luuk Ikink in the studio: “I think it is a revelation: the king does not use gel, Jeroen.”

Dry and lifeless

Jeroen is not surprised by that. “No, actually we knew that, because if you follow him for a long time, you see that his hair always hangs lifelessly and dry. Sometimes he arrives somewhere showered and it is still wet and then it fits much better.”

He continues: “If you make it a little greasy with gel… He can go a long way. We bet Máxima will be quite happy with this when he starts doing it all?”

Rob Goossens concludes: “Then there will be a second leg, boys!”
