The Christmas trees are on display in the houses of Zoetermeer and lights are on everywhere. A thick layer of snow completes the Christmas picture, right? Can we expect a white Christmas this year? Jaco van Wezel, meteorologist at Weeronline.nllooks ahead.

For those who are still hoping for a Christmas miracle, Jaco has the following to say: “The chance of a white Christmas has now become very small. We can count on a green and gray Christmas with a chance of light rain.”
A very gentle Christmas
It looks like we can forget about the snow fun this Christmas. Instead, we are presented with a particularly soft Christmas. Jaco says: “In 80 percent of the computer calculations, the temperature during the day on Christmas Day and Boxing Day is between 8 and 14 degrees. At night temperatures remain between 5 and 10 degrees.”
Warmest Christmas yet
This is not the first time it has been so soft during Christmas. In 2015 it became record broken with 14.0 degrees on Christmas Day in De Bilt and 14.4 degrees on Boxing Day. The average maximum temperature for Christmas that year was 14.2 degrees. Never before has it been so warm at Christmas.
Colder weather still possible
According to Jaco, colder weather has not yet been completely ruled out: “There is still a small chance that Christmas will turn out to be a bit colder with temperatures between 3 and 7 degrees. But really cold winter weather is not an option. Even in this scenario, the nights will be mild and no snowflakes are expected.”
Dark days before Christmas

It’s not without reason that they call it the dark days before Christmas. And this year that’s literally true, because we’re in the bleakest period since 1993. “The weather models also predict a lot of cloudiness for the Christmas holidays. There is only a 10 percent chance of sunshine on Christmas Day and 30 percent on Boxing Day,” says Jaco.
But there is also good news: “Although there is still a good chance of rain on Christmas Eve, it does not seem to be very wet during the Christmas holidays. It can sometimes drizzle a bit, but during the dry periods it will quickly become pleasant, because it is mild and there is relatively little wind.”
