Will Smith Leaves Academy of Motion Picture Arts after Oscars Incident

The actor left the American film academy after hitting the comedian Rock during the Oscar ceremony, who was joking with his wife. Smith later declared that he would never again let violence get the better of reason.

Actor Will Smith, who punched comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars, has left the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. writes edition of Variety.

“The list of those I have offended is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone in attendance and viewers from all over the world. I betrayed the Academy’s trust. I have deprived other nominees and winners of the opportunity to celebrate and receive congratulations for their outstanding work. I’m heartbroken,” Smith said.

He called his actions “shocking, painful and inexcusable” and stated that he would accept any additional consequences the Academy’s Board of Governors deemed appropriate.

“Change takes time and I am determined to do the job to ensure that I never again let violence get the better of my mind,” the actor added.
