Will Smith and the bell want to be forgotten – those are the plans

The 95th Oscars ceremony will take place on March 12 – the past is quickly worked through in advance. Last year’s incident in particular: During the 2022 Oscars, Will Smith stormed the stage and punched presenter Chris Rock after he made a supposedly funny comment about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s illness, who was also in attendance.

Will Smith could have gone to jail for his slap in the face.

“This year don’t linger in last year”

During a press conference on Wednesday, March 8, Oscars 2023 executive producer Molly McNearney said, “We’re going to acknowledge all of that, but then we’re going to move on.” But it’s certainly something they could and would address in a comedic way, Variety reported.

The Oscar 2023 makes everything new: Ricky Kirshner wants to go back to the roots

So back to the original course of the awards show, as NME reports, showrunner Ricky Kirshner says the 95th Academy Awards will be about “honoring the craft and what it takes to make a movie.” And added: “We rethought the show and we have presenters who make sense for each category. There’s no ‘that’s how we used to do it’ anymore.”

It had previously become known that a crisis team was on standby at the award ceremony. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer told Time Magazine, “Because [der Ohrfeige] over the past year we’ve opened our minds to the many things that can happen at the Oscars.”

Will Smith, his apologies and Chris Rock’s reaction to them

After a series of (also recent) apologies to Rock and the organizers, Smith resigned from the Academy. He was then banned from attending all Academy events for ten years.

Chris Rock remained silent about the incident for a long time. At the beginning of March, however, he addressed the topic in detail for the first time in a Netflix live special. Read Chris Rock’s full speech here, MUSIKEXPRESS reported.
