Will Sebastian Vettel continue? Ex-racer doubts

Sebastian Vettel was able to celebrate a real sense of achievement in Formula 1 after a long time. At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the ex-world champion finished in a strong sixth place. However, ex-racer Marc Surer is not sure whether the Heppenheimer will continue his career in the premier class after the current season.

“In his place I would say: ‘I thought that the car could fight for victories, that didn’t work,'” said the Swiss at “Champ1” about the Aston Martin driver.

“Now he’s helping to build the team and bring the car forward,” explained Surer and asked: “Why should he put himself through another year?”. Ultimately, however, only Vettel himself could answer the question of a possible retirement from Formula 1 if the 70-year-old tried not to get involved.

Before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Vettel had spoken openly about a potential departure from the premier class.

“I haven’t decided yet,” admitted the four-time world champion and announced a decision in the coming months. “Summer is usually the time when talks start. We’ll see,” Vettel avoided a clear statement.

Surer: “…then the old hag will be back”

Saying goodbye to Formula 1 would definitely not be easy for the 34-year-old. “I’ve raced my whole life. That gives you security because other people make the schedule for you. I don’t know what life after Formula 1 looks like,” revealed Vettel.

With Aston Martin, the German was able to take a step in the right direction in Baku. “I really liked him,” Surer assessed Vettel’s performance on the street circuit: “I think he senses that the car is making progress and then the old Vettel will be back.”
