The planned transfer of Manuel Akanji turns out to be more difficult than expected. No buyer has yet been found for Borussia Dortmund’s prank candidate. Now BVB is apparently thinking about extending the contract with the defender.
As the “picture” reported, the BVB bosses already have an “emergency plan” at hand should no buyers be found for Akanji by the time the transfer window closes on September 1st.
This stipulates that the Swiss contract, which expires in 2023, should then be extended by one year in order to be able to get rid of Akanji on loan. A year later, the central defender should then be finally sold.
Without an extension of the working paper, a loan in the last year of the contract would not be possible.
The “Gazzetta dello Sport” recently reported on a similar model. Accordingly, the 27-year-old could extend his contract and then switch to Inter Milan on loan with an option to buy.
According to the Italian newspaper, this solution would come in handy for both Inter and Akanji.
According to “Gazzetta”, Inter was unable to raise the around 20 million euros previously demanded by Dortmund for the player. Dortmund could possibly ask for even more for Akanji later.
The player himself, who came under strong competitive pressure with the new signings Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck in the Dortmund defense, could make the change he wanted.
Akanji traded at numerous clubs
In recent weeks, the 41-cap international Akanji has been linked with various top European clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal from the Premier League, as well as Juve and Inter from Serie A.
So far, however, all transfer talks have failed due to excessive transfer or salary demands.
