Bram Moszkowicz reacts cautiously to the question whether he thinks Douwe Bob is a good singer. That depends on his new album, according to the criminal lawyer. “And what he sings about Gaza.”
Douwe Bob and his family fled the Netherlands last year after he was threatened for running away from a performance for Jewish children. Statements by Dilan Yesilgöz in particular contributed to a negative sentiment around the singer. Now he is back with an album in which he has incorporated many of his experiences during this media riot.
Recalcitrant
It was a very intense time, Douwe said in front of the camera Show news. “There are many personal songs on the album. I have had quite an eventful year, as you may know, so yes, that is what you are going to write about. That will come back. I have experienced up close what it is like to be in such a media storm with political things and shit.”
He continues: “I find that so intense that it makes you recalcitrant or something. I don’t want to say bitter, because I really am not, but an outcast… I also took that photo (points to album cover, ed.) with my phone in Spain, where we were going at the time, because we were leaving the country, and that is that photo.”
Good singer
When presenter Eva Vloon asks in the Shownieuws studio whether her colleagues think Douwe is a good singer, studio guest Bastiaan Ragas answers: “Very good singer”
Bram Moszkowicz is clearly more reserved. “It also depends a bit on what he will say about Gaza in that new song.”
Eva: “Will you like it?”
1,200 people
Yes, Bram agrees. “Do I like it, yes. I hope that he sings well about those people, those 1,200 people who were murdered then.”
Eva: “And also all those other people who were murdered?”
Bram: “Ehmm… Yes… That’s war, isn’t it…”
