Wilfred Genee will never screw René van der Gijp on a professional level, because he owes him his marriage to Lili Genee. They married in 2008 and now have two children.
Lili Genee remembers well how she came into contact with Wilfred. It was through a charity event, she explains in the Private. “I worked for vulnerable children and for UNICEF, just like René. Together we organized a hockey match between Little Switzerland and former politicians. There was also an auction.”
Sweet Persian girl
Something went wrong at that auction, Lili explains. “When someone dropped out due to illness, René asked if I knew Wilfred, who would fill in. No. He said to Wilfred: ‘A sweet Persian girl is also participating. Just say yes right away, because she is doing very good things.’”
And then? “We then started calling each other and within no time we were talking about how people work. Wilfred would then have thought: I hope she is very ugly, because I already have feelings for her.”
‘Clicked quickly’
Lili states that things went very quickly after that. “We hit it off quite quickly. We got married at Hotel Des Indes in The Hague. To me it felt like a kind of parental home, because it was there that my mother discovered she was pregnant with me during a business trip with my father.”
Despite the many rumors about Wilfred’s alleged infidelity, the two are still very happy. “Of course we have our ups and downs, but if you allow each other to flourish and are responsible for this yourself, everything will work out.”
