There was a wildfire in the Terhosterzand nature reserve near Beilen last night. It involved a small piece of heathland that was on fire.

The fire brigade arrived quickly and quickly brought the fire under control. The fire has now been completely extinguished. The fire brigade’s drone team also arrived on site, but ultimately did not have to take action.

Police investigation shows that there are indications that the fire was started. Immediately after the fire, a trace investigation was carried out. This included looking at possible flammable material and finding evidence consistent with arson. According to bystanders, firelighters were found. It was also investigated whether flammable liquids were used.

According to the police, the fire probably started between 7:00 PM and 7:45 PM. The exact spot is located on a sandy path that runs from a parking lot into the nature reserve and is located to the left of the path after about 20 meters. The police are conducting further investigations and are looking for hikers or cyclists who were in the nature reserve around this time and who may have seen something suspicious.
