Wild rumor about Julian Nagelsmann

The German record champions are looking for a new coach for the coming season. Now there is a report circulating that could get people talking – if it turns out to be true.

Julian Nagelsmann and FC Bayern – that was never the great success story that both sides had hoped for. In 2021, the then successful coach from RB Leipzig moved to the German record champions and was supposed to shape a new era for the Munich team. Just a year and a half later, the large-scale project was over again; in March 2023, Bayern parted ways with Nagelsmann despite a strong win rate and title chances in three competitions.

His successor was Thomas Tuchel. Just under a year later, his exit has already been sealed again; the 50-year-old will be leaving Bayern at the end of the season. Nagelsmann is now national coach, but his contract with the DFB only runs until after the 2024 European Championship.

This is also why “Bild” is now spreading a very wild rumor: The 36-year-old could imagine returning to FC Bayern. “It would appeal to him,” reported “Bild” reporter Christian Falk on Sunday.

The temptation is “to go back in through the front door just after the old leadership has thrown him out.” And further: “Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern are not excluded, but only the solution if Alonso ultimately doesn’t work out.”

Big names as more likely solutions

In fact, a Nagelsmann comeback on Säbener Straße currently seems more than unlikely – Xabi Alonso is currently considered the top candidate to succeed Tuchel on the Bayern bench. Among other things, “The Athletic” reported that the Bayern management trusts the Spaniard to lead the team to lasting success again and sees him as the ideal solution.

Recently there has also been speculation about a possible involvement of Zinédine Zidane in Munich; the French world champion won the Champions League three times as a coach with Real Madrid and is currently without a club. Nagelsmann had also recently criticized the Munich team for their treatment of coaches. Nagelsmann and Bayern – as exciting as it may sound – seems very far away.
