Trades of this level are rarely seen.
Finnish NHL superstar Mikko Rantanen got into a very rare club when the Colorado Avalanche traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The NHL and Superson press release says that Rantanen is now one of the five players who have been traded in the middle of the season and whose average score is at least 1.3 points per game (at least 40 matches).
They were already in the same group Bernie Nicholls (1.60; to Rangers 1990), John Cullen (1.45; to Hartford Wolf Pack 1991), Teemu Selänne (1.41; to Ducks 1996) and Wayne Gretzky (1.31; To Blues 1996).
Rantanen has scored 25+39=64 in 49 matches this season.
In addition to the Hurricanes and Avalanche, the Chicago Blackhawks were also involved in the deal. The one who played in Chicago also moved to the Hurricanes Taylor Hall.
The Avalanche, on the other hand, got a Czech forward who played an excellent season in Carolina in addition to the reserve shifts by Martin Necas and by Jack Drury.
Rantanen’s current contract expires next summer, and he will become an unrestricted free agent.
