Wild beauty experiments in my teenage years

Beauty influencer Pinja Potasev, 26, talks about the beauty mistakes she made when she was younger. Especially many teenagers are testing the same ways to modify their appearance, and Pinja now wants to warn about the consequences. When you look at his old photos, it’s hard to believe that it’s the same person.

Many are looking for their own style and place in their teens. The beauty influencer did the same Pinja Potasev26.

Pinja, who has worked as a beauty consultant and cosmetologist, remembers the beauty tricks she did when she was younger with horror and laughter.

– When I was young, it was so susceptible to all influences. Now at an older age, I wondered if all the experiments were really necessary.

Despite everything, these experiments have not gone to waste, because now he has found self-confidence and his own style.

– My self-esteem is so much better now than when I was testing those things. It has come a long way, Pinja describes.

Pinja’s long journey has included numerous extraordinary beauty experiments, some of which, however, should be left out.

Pinja has done some experiments to look a certain way. This was especially evident when he was a fan of Japanese culture, style and music.

– It’s wonderful to try different style things, but if it goes really deep and affects, for example, body image or becomes a health risk, then it’s harmful.

Pinja has several beauty experiments to share.

Pinja has gone through the beauty crisis of her teenage years On his Tiktok account to provide peer support to others who have done similar experiments.

He also wants to be a warning example. These Pinja experiments are not worth testing.

1. Waist Trainer corset

The Waist Trainer corset arrived in Finland years ago with social celebrity Kim Kardashian. The purpose of the Waist Trainer corset was to modify the shape of the body towards the hourglass.

Pinja was also influenced by Kardashian. She wore that corset when she was 16. During the painful experiment, he had, among other things, fainted in group exercise classes.

Pinja considers this experiment of her youth to be the most harmful, and she would no longer participate in such body modification experiments.

– Really stupid and really sad, Pinja sums up.

2. Eye-enlarging contact lenses

Pinja used eye-enlarging contact lenses for almost four years. This experiment was rooted in the idealization of Japanese culture.

– The contact lenses created really big and even doll-like eyes.

– I certainly wasn’t the only one who used these, Pinja recalls.

With this long-term experiment, blood vessels began to grow on top of his iris. At the latest, this was a sign for the young girl that it was time to give up these contact lenses. A doctor’s visit confirmed this conclusion.

3. Hair bleaching at home

Teenagers usually don’t have a lot of money to spend on various beauty experiments. To save money, Pinja decided to dye her dark hair blonde with home dyes.

– This cut off all the hair on the head and the color turned green.

He had read on the internet that you can change the green color with ketchup. Pinja did the work as told and she says that she still can’t stand the smell of ketchup. The ketchup hair mask also didn’t help with the curling of the hair dye.

– I cannot emphasize enough that it is definitely worth investing in a good hairdresser, Pinja laughs.

4. Eyelid tapes

Pinja, who idolizes the Japanese gyaru make-up style, got it into her head at a young age that she has monolid eyelids. She got herself eyelid tapes, as instructed in many Japanese fashion magazines, and glued them to her eyes.

– I tried this style only once, because it didn’t help my lashes, Pinja laughs.

5. Ordering cheap makeup

For years, Pinja ordered cheap makeup online, usually from China. However, he didn’t always know what all the products contained.

Once he ordered eyelash glue from China. He tried to attach false eyelashes using this glue. As a result of the experiment, the eyelashes were glued to his lids.

In the end, Pinja was able to tear her eyelashes out of her eyelid. At the same time, half of his own eyelashes came off.

– Many of my experiments were such that I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on them. In the end, the laundry came to cost much more.

6. Shaping the corners

Shaving her eyebrows suited Pinja’s style at the time, and she does not regret this experiment. The process of growing back his eyebrows left him with gray hair.

Pinja plucked her eyebrows for about three years straight. She is extremely grateful that finally, after about two years of waiting, her eyebrows grew back.

7. Make-up at night

This is a make-up experiment that Pinja cannot understand.

He is saddened by the thought of how insecure he must have been when he was younger, to hide his dark circles even at night.

– I could never do this again, Pinja emphasizes.

8. Faking bad eyesight

When Pinja was younger, she was a fan of a Japanese band called Sug. The frontman of the band wore angular glasses. Pinja thought these glasses were so great that she had to get similar ones.

However, Pinja’s eyesight was good, and she didn’t really need glasses. However, he decided to fake his bad eyesight in order to get himself glasses. Pinja succeeded in her deception.

However, it was impossible to wear glasses, because he suffered from severe headaches due to wearing them.

Pinja still says yes to style experiments that are not harmful to health or self-esteem. Pinja Potasev

Advantages and disadvantages of social media

Pinja recalls that social media was just taking off when she was doing these different beauty experiments.

– If social media influenced young people so much even then, I don’t even dare to think how much it influences today. Some is a much bigger deal today than it was back then.

Pinja knows that social media also has its advantages. There you can find friends and get inspiration for your own style. Pinja encourages young people to experiment and play with different styles freely, but safely.

However, he has one additional tip to give to young people.

– If someone’s content creates appearance pressure for you, you can always stop following someone on social media. There is no need to follow such people who cause pressure and bad feeling about themselves.
