Wiede: “An injury in this phase is particularly painful”

By Oliver Knaack

The loss of Füchse national player Fabian Wiede (29) is bitter. But the 29-year-old hopes he won’t be out for too long.

The Füchse’s backcourt player suffered a bone avulsion and a fracture to his right ankle in a duel at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten at the end of September.

On Monday it was Again operated in Bavaria. He posted a photo from the hospital, the Schönklinik in Munich Harlaching, via Instagram.

The operation was carried out by Prof. Dr. Markus Walther, chief physician in the specialist center for foot and ankle surgery.

Wiede had to wait more than a week for the operation because the swelling in his foot had to go down first. Both games that the Foxes have played in the meantime were won. In the league there was a clear home win against Eisenach (37:29), and in the cup there was a narrow success in Erlangen (38:35).

“An injury never comes at a good time, but in the current phase it is particularly painful,” wrote Wiede via Instagram and describes his feelings about not being able to help the team at the moment: “Now having to watch from the outside is extremely difficult difficult. But I believe in our team and know that they will rock it either way.”

Home European Championship at risk

It is not yet clear how long the left-hander will be out. A return this year seems questionable due to the severity of the injury. That is why his participation in the European Championships, which will take place in Germany from January 10, 2024, is at risk.

The Foxes are therefore already looking for a replacement for the backcourt player, like the manager Bob Hanning had already confirmed last week: “We have to explore the market and see if there is someone who can help us.”
