When Bob Mold and Grant Hart stopped getting along, they had just landed a major record deal with Warner. “Candy Apple Gray” (1986) and “Warehouse: Songs And Stories” (1987) were released on this label, the last records by Hüsker Dü. This is Danish and means “Do you remember?” Hüsker Dü, founded in Minneapolis, released their first record, a noise work with short sound explosions, in 1982.

Rowohlt’s “Rock Lexicon” described their location as an “outpost of hardcore”. Along with Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys and Dinosaur Jr., they may even have been the core of American post-punk.

In any case, guitarist Mould, drummer Hart and bassist Greg Norton parted ways when success became apparent. Drugs are also said to have been involved. Mold and Hart then made great solo records – in 1989, Mold made his best ever, “Workbook”, as one can see in retrospect. Soon that too was over, Mold formed another trio, and “Copper Blue,” released in 1992 amid the grunge craze, was voted album of the year by “Melody Maker.”

Since the end of the 90s, Mold has been releasing solo records again, experimenting with electronics, and we have seen him many a time at RS Beach, where he plays his songs on the electric guitar like a controlled wild man. Often all alone on stage. And as we know from Pete Townshend, that’s very difficult. And you have to be able to play the guitar very well.

This time Bob Mold comes with a band. It’s called the Bob Mold Band. I’ll go there again. Maybe he’ll play “See A Little Light” again.

Bob Mold will perform on the festival Saturday. You can find more information about ROLLING STONE Beach here.
