The list of participating acts at the “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert by Black Sabbath in Birmingham was long: Metallica, Guns N ‘Roses, Slayer, Pantera and many more. While other artists (Wolfgang van Halen, Judas Priest) canceled, Ozzy Osbournes wife Sharon announced that he will soon reveal the name of an act that she had unloaded again – because of too high a fee. “You will be shocked,” said the manager and cheered on speculation.
Meanwhile, much less attention was given to the celebrities who were in the stadium – but not on stage, but the stands. Among them Brian May. The almost 78-year-old Queen guitarist cannot do anything for his often frozen facial expression. But he doesn’t really look like a snapshot.
The followers on X ask themselves: Would he have been on stage with Ozzy and Co? They comment on that. “I would have thought that he would be in one of the supergroups,” writes one in astonishment. “Maybe Brian is not in the mood for an energetic show,” comments another. “Looks like he’s having a lot of fun! Or as if he were waiting for the bus to bring him back to the nursing home”, another.

“Surprised that he is not there, especially since he is Tony’s buddy,” writes a fan. There is something on it. Because Brian May praises the concert in the highest tones on Instagram and collects a heart emoji by Tony Iommi, guitarist by Black Sabbath.
“Everything ready to become an event that nobody will ever forget. Heil Black Sabbath and friends-the ultimate explosion !!! Bri,” writes the queen boss on Instagram before the concert.
Support from the audience – and from the sofa?
So why Brian May “only” was in the audience instead of joining one of the “Back to the Beginning” supergroups, for example. He is still active as a musician. And maybe there is still a cooperation between Queen and Black Sabbath in the studio?
