The music trend has been circulating for a few weeks – now a Slipknot cover band took on the so-called “Whitney Houston Challenge” and caused a stir online. Other musicians followed the Brazilians’ example and put their tact to the test.
What is the Whitney Houston Challenge?
The hype has been enthralling the online community for several weeks – after it went viral on TikTok and Instagram. The aim of the challenge is to demonstrate your own sense of rhythm: you try to hit the distinctive drum beat before the last chorus from Whitney Houston’s hit “I Will Always Love You” in exactly the same time.
They film themselves and then share the clip online. The experiments trigger a whole range of reactions from the audience and those trying them out – from excitement and joy to (foreign) shame.
The challenge is more difficult than it seems at first glance. Numerous musicians have already tried it, but most of them failed and caused laughter. By the way, the original drum beat comes from Ricky Lawson, the drummer who died in December 2013.
This is how Cwnot lined up
The Brazilian Slipknot cover band Cwnot continued the trend. The eight members appeared in full gear – dark blue overalls, the typical masks and wigs – and positioned themselves in a semicircle behind a white drum with a Slipknot logo. One by one, they grabbed the stick and tried to hit the shot in time with Lawson, with Houston’s classic playing in the background.
The result was expected, but still surprising: of the eight band members, only one hit the beat perfectly, the others started too early or too late. The person who got the beat exactly was the band’s guitarist.
Other musicians joined Cwnot – including Simple Plan and Paula Abdul.

Slipknot news
Recently, Eloy Casagrande, drummer of the metal band, revealed that Slipknot is working on new music. The band hinted at the song “Long May You Die,” which was recorded shortly after Casagrande joined in early 2024. In addition, according to the band, the new album “Look Outside Your Window” will be released in 2025. Just when?
