The people who are in the audience at Arjen Lubach all pay eight euros to be present at the recordings. Why is that anyway? Is the RTL star not happy that someone is coming at all?

It is quite striking: where Arjen Lubach has seen his viewer crowd fall sharply after his switch to RTL 4, he still gets his crowds in the studio effortlessly filled. In fact: those people all pay 8 euros to see the presenter make jokes for twenty minutes. Why do those tickets actually have to be purchased?

8 euros per card

Many other TV programs give away tickets for the public for free and then you also get consumption vouchers. There are even productions that are forced to pay the fee. So that is very different at Arjen.

If someone in the audience asks him about it, Arjen says In his Q&A section: “Why are the tickets” only “7.95 euros? How nice, I have never heard anyone who thought it was too cheap.”

“You help us”

Then the somewhat messy explanation of Arjen follows. “Well, they are 7.95 euros … In fact, we would like to give them away for free, because you help us enormously … No, that doesn’t mean that you all get back 7.95 euros now, only we have noticed in the past …”

He continues: “We have done it for free in the beginning, only then many people did not show up, because they thought: it doesn’t matter, because I didn’t pay for it anyway.”

Trick

To prevent an unforeseen empty studio, Arjen and his team have therefore stuck a sum of money on those tickets. “So it’s a bit of a trick to make you think: yes, I have paid 7.95 euros for it, so then I will sit in the audience with my mustache.”

He concludes: “It is actually a bit of a symbolic amount.”
