The Austrian fiber specialist Lenzing is launching a new cellulose fiber. The fiber named Tencel Lyocell-HV100 is a new fiber innovation that deliberately has irregularities and is inspired by the structured aesthetics of natural fibers. The reason for this development was the demand in the market, said Lenzing in a press release.
The naturally -looking, irregular look in the tissue is created by controlled variations in the stacking length of the fibers (10 to 28 millimeters). “In addition to the texture, the matt surface of the fiber also underlines opaque and offers factories and brands expanded creative opportunities for the development of fabrics with the aesthetics of natural fibers,” says Lenzing. In addition, the fibers have a continued soft but less fluid grip on Premium-Denim products and achieve a natural softness without complications when washing. Tencel Lyocell-HV100 shows good results in denim applications in which an authentic texture is important. The fibers open up new possibilities for kett yarns – traditionally dominated by cotton – and at the same time retain the processing efficiency required by the manufacturers. Beyond denim, attempts in the areas of clothing and home textiles also show a broader potential for the new fiber.
“From a technical point of view, Tencel Lyocell – HV100 enables us to have new ways of innovation and cooperation with our partners in the textile industry,” said Florian Heubrandner, Vice President Global Business Management Textiles at Lenzing. “The controlled variation opens up opportunities for yarns and fabrics that have not yet been feasible with Lyocell. We already see innovative approaches from various markets that suggest considerable potential for product differentiation.”
The new fiber will initially be used in denim products before they are used in other textiles and home textiles in 2026. The new Tencel Lyocell – HV100 fibers can be seen on the Kingpins Amsterdam at the Lenzing stand in October.
