Princess Alexia reacts very uncomfortably when the press asks her about her relationship with singer Antoon, but why? “The British royal family does that better.”
It was her own choice: Princess Alexia got into singer Antoon’s car in front of a packed terrace last year on Budget Day. And then it is of course logical that rumors about a possible romance will continue to circulate for months. She was asked about it for the first time yesterday, during the periodic photo session of the Oranjes.
“This is private!”
If RTL Boulevardreporter Annemarie de Kunder brings up the subject, Alexia says: “I know that I have not always done smart things in the context of the media, but of course there is all kinds of speculation. I know my own truth, I know who I am and I know who my friends are and that’s all I can really say there.”
Annemarie then: “But you understand, I have to ask: are you in a relationship with Antoon?”
Queen Máxima: “You simply said that these matters are private, you said it yourself, so we will leave it at that.”
‘Not at the table!’
What stiff stuff, says Johan Derksen. “She’s a nice lady, but we never need her at the table, do we?”
Wilfred Genee: “No, we don’t have to invite them. That’s really nothing at all.”
TV authority Tina Nijkamp: “She is really trained in: many words.”
Johan: “There’s something sad about it, isn’t it? They become very nice girls, all three of them, but then I think: that girl is standing there sweating, let her make a joke, act normal, act normal.”
‘She was shocked’
Tina thinks Alexia can’t be herself. “She also seems to be a very nice girl behind the scenes.”
René van der Gijp: “Imagine that such a girl says: ‘We are having a great time together at the moment, we will see where the ship ends up’, what happens then?”
Political reporter Merel Ek: “I think she was shocked, because I think you have to submit the questions to the RVD in advance and I don’t think this question was officially submitted, because I don’t think they would have ever approved that.”
Much chiller
Why is Alexia acting so stiff? Tina: “No, she was shocked by it. That’s why she started talking in a lot of words. The RVD is so stiff, they gave her complete media training and that’s the difference with England. They deal with all these kinds of questions much more chilled there. I really think so. I think it’s a really big difference.”
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker also finds it all very cramped. “Can’t you rehearse the answer a little better in advance? This comes out so awkward,” he says in Show news.
Polite
Royalty fan Sandra Schuurhof, who says she has seen the children of the Oranges grow up as a royalty reporter and also talks about it affectionately, stands up for Alexia.
“She also doesn’t want to say no very loudly. You can also say: it is very polite of Alexia that she still formulates something. She can also just say: ‘That is none of your business. It is private.'”
