Why Bushido the splash! Festival 2024 has been canceled

“I could have performed, but in the end I said: ‘I don’t have to, I won’t do it,’” said Bushido.

Bushido recently announced the new dates for his – probably last – tour. There are also open-air concerts, but not at Germany’s largest hip-hop event, the splash! Festival. According to his own statements, the rapper has valid reasons for his absence.

“That didn’t feel right to me.”

In his podcast “Electro Ghetto“, with streamer Marvin California, the Berliner explains why he decided against a gig at the event after a request from the organizers. The 45-year-old explains that 20 years ago he was at splash! appeared and associated a “special story” with this show.

And further: “That was nothing to me. That didn’t feel right to me.” The reason for this is that, on the one hand, the fee couldn’t keep up with his solo concerts and, on the other hand, the communication was “very unsympathetic” and “very unreliable”.

Bushido wants “more appreciation”. He doesn’t report what exactly happened in the podcast. He simply ends his remarks with the words: “I could have performed, […] But in the end I said: ‘I don’t need to, I won’t do it.'”

The problems in the past

Around 20 years ago, the exchange with the organizers wasn’t going so well, according to Bushido. After two shows – once with Aggro Berlin and once after the breakup with the label – the Berliner remembers that discussions about further festival appearances were “very unpleasant”.
