In 2024, Finns were subjected to much more scams and their companies than a year earlier. Evacuation of scams requires investments from society as a whole and from person, not just from banks and operators.

Finns were attempted to cheat about EUR 107 million last year, as shown on the recent information of the Finnish Financial Services Association. The increase in the previous year was nearly 40 percent.
The biggest losses were from phishing scams, which Finns lost about EUR 32 million in 2024. The next largest losses – about EUR 20 million – were suffered in investment scams.
Current actions are not enough
The Fraud and Crime of the Financial Services Association Niko Saxholm Recalls in the announcement that even the efficient means of fighting banks is not enough to defeat the cheaters.
– The exchange of information between banks and banks and authorities should be significantly enhanced. Due to current legislation, it is currently quite limited. Improving information exchange is the best way to eradicate scams to the roots, says Saxholm.
In addition, alert is required of just about every Finn. From both you and your loved ones.
– In particular, you need to be very careful when reinforcing payments. It is a good idea for customers to check carefully what are being confirmed to prevent it from accidentally going to the cheaters, he emphasizes.
Do not place through ad
According to Saxholm, telecom operators are also doing a good job of preventing scam calls. However, it would be particularly important to get social media giants and online marketplaces to remove criminal advertisements from its platforms
Saxholm hopes that investing will never be started based on a single advertisement alone.
– For example, if you are interested in investing in cryptocurrencies, you should never go through the ad on the web, but to get to know the issue and find information elsewhere.
