“Which circuits can the World Cup go to”

The president of Formula 1 at Sky Sports UK: “There is a lot of interest in America, China and Africa, there are great possibilities to expand the market in those areas”

“There is not only Las Vegas, there are other cities interested in Formula 1”. Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, said this during an interview with Sky Sports UK. “We have to be balanced, we have to see what the other opportunities are,” said the former Ferrari F1 and Lamborghini manager. “And very soon we will tell everyone what our strategy is for developing that market,” he added.

Domenicali also indicated Africa as a potential market in which to grow. The South African circuit of Kyalami – which Lewis Hamilton recently insisted he can return to F1 – hosted the last race in 1993 and has been proposed as an option. “In addition to America, China, I think there is the potential to be in Africa soon,” said Domenicali. “There is a lot of interest there. For sure this is another area that is missing so far in the geography of our calendar,” he added. The current pact of the harmony of F1, which will last until 2025, allows 24 races per season, but Domenicali is not out of balance with regard to a further expansion of the World Championship appointments.
