For Eintracht Braunschweig, the appearance at Prussia Münster becomes a game of fate. The BTSV urgently needs a victory in the basement duel. An ex-boss thinks an advantage on the side of the Prussia.

Descent thriller in the 2nd Bundesliga: Eintracht Braunschweig and Prussia Münster only three points separate before the direct meeting on Sunday (1.30 p.m.). Both sit deep in the table cellar. “The duel really has it all,” says Peter Vollmann about the “Bild” newspaper. The 67-year-old was the sports director of Eintracht until November 2023.

And in view of the precarious situation in the fight for relegation, Vollmann knows: “There is a lot at stake for both clubs.” A little more for Eintracht. Because the BTSV is currently occupied by relegation place 16. The climber from Münster is with a three-point lead and the goal difference Table-15 better with 18 goals. Even with a bankruptcy you would remain almost safe in front of the harmony.

The excitement is therefore clearly noticeable in the Löwenstadt and around the club. There would also be too little draw for the moment. “The Prussians definitely do that better,” said Vollmann about the “picture”. “It is an enormously important game for them too. But they deal differently and more calmly.

Especially: even afterwards, there are still seven games to make it clear to remain the league. Basically, Vollmann does not want to commit himself to a winner. However, he also thinks another advantage among the hosts from Münster.

“Being able to compete in front of your own fans may make it a little easier for the Prussians,” he says. In the past, the 67-year-old not only worked as a BTSV official and trainer, but also twice (1996 to 1998 and 2002 to 2003) as a coach in Münster. His sympathy for the club still does not seem to be gone. “In any case, I would be happy if Prussia stays second -class,” he admits.

However, this also applies to Eintracht, which, according to the desolate 1: 5 swatter against Hertha BSC, has to catch itself quickly before the international break. According to Vollmann, one can no longer afford a “such indiscutable appearance like against Berlin”. At least if the recent faithful of the players are said to remain credible for coach Daniel Schering.

The duel in Münster also becomes a tightrope walk for the coach. Immediately after the hearty defeat against Hertha, the club had expressed his trust.
