Good news for those who like to ski: this weekend you can ski in your own country. In Ovifat in the High Fens the slopes are currently being prepared and at Baraque Fraiture the toboggan runs are even open. A modest white carpet can also fall in Flanders.

“There is currently about 10 centimeters in Mont-Rigi in the High Fens,” says Dehenauw. “No more will be added today and tomorrow, but on Sunday in the afternoon and especially in the evening, according to current forecasts, another 1 to 5 centimeters.”

So if you want to play it safe, it’s best to go there extreme east of the country. Preparations to receive skiers are already in full swing on the ski slope in Ovifat.

The toboggan run and the green and blue ski slopes will be open on both Saturday and Sunday. There is parking and you can also rent skis there. A ski pass costs 30 euros, sledding a maximum of 5 euros. Brasserie Barra’ski on the slopes also opens its doors. You can go there for a snack or a hot drink.

Baraque Fraiture

The Baraque Fraiture toboggan run is already open. Today there is a layer of snow of 4 centimeters. It is not certain whether you will be able to ski there this weekend. Yesterday it was examined whether the small ski lift could possibly open (left slope, 200 meters green slope), but there is no progress for the time being.

“Yesterday’s positive temperatures affected the snow cover, but today the cold has returned. Sledding remains possible and so does walking, but not alpine skiing and cross-country skiing,” it said this morning. The Chalet de La Station is open for snacks and drinks.

Also on Signal de Botrange can you go sledding this weekend?

Snow in Flanders

We could also see snow in Flanders. “On Sunday there may be temporarily 0 to 1 centimeter of snow in Flanders and locally even 2 centimeters is possible,” he adds.

Now that the ski season has opened earlier than expected, where can you ski? And does it cost the same? (+)
