In the heart of Ypres, archaeologists laid a castle wall, a four -meter deep canal and possibly an old drawbridge. “We think this heavy pole and beam are related to the bridge to the castle,” says Jan Decorte, archaeologist and heritage coordinator at CO7.
The site shows traces of the former place of residence of the count of Flanders. But it is still unclear whether those remnants remain visible. There was already a supermarket in the same place, and a new one is planned.
