Anyone who wants to start the new year actively, creatively or musically has plenty of choice in Drenthe this weekend. From nature journals and winter walks to a children’s activity afternoon, a plant hunt and a New Year’s concert. Here is an overview of the activities this weekend.

On Saturday, January 3, Staatsbosbeheer is organizing a nature journaling workshop in the Drents-Friese Wold together with Mirja Brandorff. Participants learn how to keep their own nature diary by drawing, writing and observing with all the senses. Work is done outside as much as possible, weather permitting. The workshop is also suitable for people without drawing experience and starts at 1:30 PM at the Outdoor Center in Appelscha.

There is also plenty to do this weekend for hiking enthusiasts. ‘t Huus met de Belle organizes a winter walk of 5 or 10 kilometers through village, forest, farmlands and heathland. You can start between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm in Echten. There will be a break along the way to warm up.

Staatsbosbeheer is organizing a children’s activity afternoon in the Drents-Friese Wold Outdoor Center especially for children from 5 to 12 years old. During a short walk in the woods, the children collect materials to make a bird feeder, which will help birds survive the winter.

Anyone who would like to contribute to science can join the End-of-Year Plant Hunt of IVN Emmen-Coevorden on Saturday afternoon. In the Rensenpark in Emmen, an inventory is being made of which wild plants are still blooming in the middle of winter. The count lasts one hour and participation is free.
