Hand it in or throw it in the trash
In many municipalities you can hand in your Christmas tree at special collection points. For example, there are no fewer than 2,300 places in the municipality of Amsterdam where you can drop off the tree. In Alkmaar you can even leave the tree to the municipality: if you put it on the road before 7:30 am, HVC, the waste processing company, will collect the tree for you. Inquire with your municipality about the options and collection dates.
The old tree can also be put in the organic waste bin. Make sure everything is removed from the tree: lights, baubles and all other decorations. Then chop it into pieces and you’re done. You can also choose to bring the tree in its entirety to the waste separation station.
