The driving aid system is among the mandatory ones on new cars since July 2024, and is a tool to reduce mortality on the roads

September 24 – 17:40 – MILAN

THE’Notice of advanced distraction (in the abbreviation DDA) is one of the driving aid systems (Adas) who have become mandatory on all new cars enrolled in Europe since July last year. The purpose of the safety device is already clear from the name, despite the fact that the car manufacturers call it each in their own way: it is a system that “Becca” the driver’s distractions and redeem him with a warning. Often it is difficult to find it in the list of standard equipment, because several car manufacturers agree with itAttention Assist o Nargeal tiredness detection, another of the devices made mandatory by the same European regulation, the number 2019/2144. There is one reason: the two, in fact, share most of the car detection tools, have very similar tasks and are equally fundamental to reduce accidents and deaths on the roads.

THINGS

The DDA continually monitor the driver’s behavior and it warns if it detects poor concentration to drivingdetermined by distraction or tiredness (in the latter case we speak of Attention Assistbut as mentioned the two systems, in fact, they are faces of the same medal). When the advanced distraction notice identifies signals of poor concentration by the driver for a certain period of time, on the tools framework A warning is shown and a sound alarm started. If the driver ignores notices and does not change his behavior, then the notices are intensified. In the most extreme cases (and with the most advanced devices) the car could even slow down automatically until.

How it works

The system uses one camerausually “hidden” between the instrument panel and the steering wheel or integrated into the driver’s side upstream, which detects and monitors the face of those who are driving in search of signals of distraction. For the analysis, i eye movementswhere in short, a very common example of distraction (and causes too many accidents, even mortal) is the use of the smartphone driving, with eyes distracted from the road to be focused on the mobile phone. Several advanced distraction notices decide whether or not to “resume” the driver also evaluating the way of conducting the carif for example the guide is not regular but zigzag. The system, like many other Adas, can be disabled, but returns active to each reacing of the car. In certain cases, on the other hand, making mainly pivot on the skills of a camera, the system may not work: it is the case with objects that obstruct the electronic eye, such as dust or dirty, or some accessories (see some types of sunglasses) that prevent monitoring of parameters and elements from which the device determines the level of attention.
