Whale millions of years old discovered on a construction site in Antwerp: “The chance that there are still remains here is high”

At the slaughterhouse site in Antwerp, archaeologists have made a remarkable discovery: about 15 meters below current sea level, they came across the skeleton of a whale that is approximately 6 million years old. The discovery occurred during excavation work for a new residential project by Triple Living. “I believe this was a breeding ground or a kind of nursery for whales,” says archaeologist Herman.
